Volunteer Opportunities

The Minnesota Medical Foundation offers several volunteer opportunities for alumni and friends.

Alumni Hosting Applicants Program

This program matches Twin Cities-area Medical School alumni with out-of-town medical school applicants. Visiting applicants stay at the home of the volunteer, are taken to the interview, and introduced to the admissions staff.

Clinical Exam Evaluator Program

Twin Cities-area physicians are invited to serve as physician-evaluators in Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCE). Conducted at a University hospital clinic, the program involves evaluating students as part of an 18-station exam. Evaluators utilize a checklist to evaluate students' clinical skills based upon observation of the student interacting with a standardized patient, trained to simulate a patient problem.

Every eighth Friday, 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. You can serve as an evaluator when you are available. Ilene Harris, Ph.D.

Connections Physician-Student Mentoring Program

Each October, the Connections Physician-Student Mentoring Program matches physicians with current medical school students. Relationships vary depending on what the mentor and mentee want from the relationship, but in many cases, lifelong friendships have resulted.

In partnership with the Hennepin and Ramsey Medical Societies, all Twin Cities-area physicians are invited to participate, not just University of Minnesota alumni.

Program begins in November of each year. Time varies based on nature of relationship.

Reunion Planning Volunteers

Each year volunteers from the 10th-, 25th-, 30th-, 35th-, 40th-, 45th-, 50th-, 55th-, and 60th-year reunion classes help plan and promote their medical school class reunion. Alumni help arrange events and encourage their classmates to attend. Volunteers need not live in the Twin Cities area, as much of the planning is done over the phone or via e-mail.
