In today's financial environment, scholarships have become critical to the future of quality health care in Minnesota.

With the combination of decreasing state aid and increasing costs of providing a first-rate medical education, tuition rates can be a burden on students. The average debt among the most recent University of Minnesota Medical School graduates surpasses $130,000.

The Minnesota Medical Foundation is doing all it can to help the Medical School and School of Public Health continue to attract the best and brightest students. Providing scholarships to deserving students is a major part of that. Thanks to generous donors, in 2007 the foundation provided more than $2 million for scholarships benefiting more than 500 students. And with your help, even more talented students can receive financial assistance through scholarships in the future.

Gift Opportunities

Ways your gift can support scholarships for students include:

  • The Dean's Scholars Society, through which top students from Minnesota are provided with full-tuition scholarships. Benefactors commit a gift of at least $30,000 over four years—$7,500 per year—and that money is pooled with the gifts of three other donors to support a promising student's full-tuition scholarship.
  • The President's Scholarship Match, through which the University matches the payout on gifts of $25,000 or more that are designated for endowed scholarship funds. More
  • The Medical School Scholarship Fund, through which need-based scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students. Contributions of all sizes are welcome and provide an important means of support for students.
