J. Thomas Livermore Memorial Award

The J. Thomas Livermore Memorial Award is intended to recognize research achievement in any field by an undergraduate medical student, with a preference for hematology and the treatment of blood diseases. It was established in 1971 by the family of Tom Livermore, a young man who died of leukemia. The family chose the University of Minnesota Medical School as the site of the award in appreciation of the care and treatment provided for Tom at the University during his final illness. The award is $1,500. Awards are nomination-based and are accepted from any faculty members whose students have demonstrated exceptional research achievement.

Nomination Process

  • The documentation provided by nominators is the primary basis of selection.
  • Applications must be based on substantially completed or completed manuscripts.
  • Abstracts will not be accepted, nor will grant proposals.
  • 15 complete copies of the nomination form (Microsoft Word) and supporting materials are required
